About the Item

Paul Geissler's view of downtown Philadelphia features it's wonderful city hall. Philadelphia is gifted with an actual plan and the city hall itself is a focal point of the entire area. Geissler gives us a view through a wide boulevard -- maybe we're looking west on Market Street to the East Facade? Further he was a master draughtsman with architectural drawing skills because the perspective and details on the buildings are all breathtaking. It was made in 1928 -- the year before the Crash. It is filled with optimism. This work is signed in pencil in the lower right margin. But it is also signed, titled, and dated, in the image itself in the lower right corner. This is somewhat unusual and to me speaks to the artist's pride in this fine accomplishment.

    Although the sheet is in basically good condition there are two issues. There is light, even toning. Further there is an indentation in the lower margin, to the left of the pencil signature. These should be clear in the photographs.
